Honored by the Community

 Personal Statement

"I have lived and worked in Eugene for 43 years. For 35 of those years, I have been a coach for Kidsports and served as Executive Director of the organization for a year. I have served in elective office in Eugene for 10 years, including two terms as Mayor.

"I am currently chairing the Olympic Trials Volunteer Committee, and work as a School Board Member for Eugene District 4J. Youth services and the quality of our community’s educational resources have been extremely important to me during my career.

"My wife Kathy and I have been married for almost 50 years. We raised four great kids, although our eldest son was taken from us in an automobile accident some years back. Our kids Todd, Teri and Tammy all live in Eugene with their families. They have given us five wonderful grandchildren whose futures are also in Eugene.

"Eugene has provided great personal value to me and I commited to working for a balanced, healthy future where our kids will want to live.

  "This is the main reason
   I am running for Mayor.
   I want
to help insure that
   our kids and grandkids are
able to live a quality life here

   in the years to come.

   "During the past several years,
I do not believe we
have made the choices for our future. I feel quite strongly about this and I am committed to help correct our course. Eugene must and CAN take a positive, cooperative approach to the many important issues that will determine the quality and livability of our future."
